In an era where luxury is increasingly defined by authenticity, craftsmanship, and conscious production, VEEV stands as a remarkable example of how heritage can evolve into a contemporary global vision. This philosophy is beautifully reflected in the brand’s Spring/Summer collection, where lightweight silhouettes, refined textures, and artisanal woven leather techniques come together to celebrate effortless sophistication and timeless elegance.

Built upon more than a century of leather expertise and decades of mastery in traditional weaving techniques, VEEV has successfully transformed artisanal knowledge into a modern luxury proposition that resonates with today’s consumers.

At the heart of VEEV lies a deep respect for craftsmanship. Every woven leather piece reflects generations of knowledge passed down through skilled artisans, blending time-honoured techniques with innovative design and modern functionality. Rather than simply preserving tradition, VEEV reinterprets it, creating products that honor their origins while embracing the expectations of a global luxury market.

Beyond its distinctive aesthetic, the brand is equally committed to social impact and responsible growth. By collaborating closely with artisan communities, particularly women artisans, VEEV has created opportunities that extend far beyond product creation. Empowerment, financial independence, and the preservation of cultural heritage are integral parts of the company’s mission, demonstrating that luxury can be both beautiful and meaningful.

As sustainability continues to shape the future of fashion and accessories, VEEV is also navigating the complex challenges of responsible leather production. Through continuous innovation, material research, and process improvements, the brand is working toward a more sustainable future while remaining transparent about the realities and limitations of the industry.

In this exclusive interview, we speak with the team behind VEEV to explore the brand’s origins, its commitment to craftsmanship, the challenges of sustainability, the impact on artisan communities, and its ambitious vision for the years ahead. Their story offers a compelling perspective on how tradition, innovation, and purpose can come together to create a truly modern luxury brand.

1. Your story mentions nearly a century of craftsmanship heritage. Can you share how the brand originally began and what heritage is embedded in the weaving techniques you use?

Our story is rooted in generations of craftsmanship and technical expertise. We have over 100 years of leather know-how and 38 years of experience in leather weaving techniques. VEEV was created to bring this heritage into a contemporary global brand, combining tradition, authenticity, and innovation.

2. What was the turning point that transformed your traditional craft into an international brand?

Our deep leather expertise and decades of weaving experience inspired us to create an international brand that could share our craftsmanship with the world. While the concept was developed between 2010 and 2012, the first complete collection was launched in 2023, marking the beginning of VEEV as a global brand.

3. How long does it typically take to produce one bag from start to finish, and what are the key stages in your handmade production process?

It typically takes around 32 hours to produce a single product from start to finish, depending on the complexity of the design. The process includes cutting and preparation, weaving, assembly, finishing, and quality control. Production can range from 8 to 24 hours for simpler designs and up to 80 hours for more intricate pieces.

4. How do you reinterpret traditional weaving techniques to suit modern markets?

We reinterpret traditional weaving techniques by adapting them into contemporary silhouettes and shapes. Our approach combines heritage craftsmanship with current trends and consumer preferences, allowing us to preserve the authenticity of the techniques while creating products that feel modern and relevant.

5. What are the biggest challenges you face in achieving true sustainability in production?

The greatest sustainability challenges in leather production are tanning and colouring processes. Achieving specific shades using only natural dyes is extremely difficult, and colour stability can also be limited. Leather itself presents sustainability challenges, making the pursuit of complete sustainability a complex and ongoing process.

6. Have you reached your goal of becoming 100% sustainable and organic by 2025?

We have not yet achieved our goal of becoming 100% sustainable and organic. However, we continue to make steady progress by improving our production processes and sourcing more responsible materials. We are actively working to reduce the chemical footprint associated with tanning and colouring while implementing more sustainable practices throughout the supply chain.

7. How has working with VEEV impacted the lives of the women artisans you collaborate with?

Working with VEEV has empowered women artisans by strengthening their connection to the brand and giving them pride in contributing to products that showcase authentic craftsmanship to a global audience. Their skills and expertise are now reaching customers around the world.

8. What has been the most meaningful social impact you’ve seen in your artisan communities?

The most meaningful social impact we have witnessed is greater financial independence and increased self-confidence among the women artisans. These changes have strengthened not only their professional lives but also their roles within their families and communities.

9. Where do you typically find inspiration for your colours, patterns, and textures, and which product best represents the essence of the VEEV brand?

Our inspiration comes from nature, traditional artistry, and contemporary trends. We focus on reinterpreting traditional ideas through innovation and modern design. The products that best represent the essence of VEEV are those that successfully combine timeless craftsmanship with contemporary functionality, showcasing the balance between heritage and innovation.

10. Where do you see VEEV in the next 5–10 years in terms of growth and impact?

Over the next five to ten years, we envision VEEV becoming one of the top three to five global brands in the premium woven leather bag segment. At the same time, we remain committed to creating meaningful social impact, supporting artisan communities, and preserving the craftsmanship traditions that define our identity.
